What Makes Vinpearl Safari Special
Vinpearl Safari opened in 2015 as Vietnam's first open-format wildlife park, covering 380 hectares in the northern part of Phú Quốc Island. The park houses over 3,000 animals from 150 species across two main zones: an open safari area accessible by bus, where African megafauna - lions, giraffes, white rhinos, zebras, wildebeest, and hippos - roam in large semi-open enclosures; and a walking zoo area with smaller animals, primate enclosures, bird aviaries, and a reptile house. The white rhino population is one of the most significant in Southeast Asia, with the park participating in international breeding programmes for the southern white rhino. The overall standard is notably higher than most Vietnamese zoos, with larger enclosures and more natural habitat design.

How to Get There
🚗 Getting There
Vinpearl Safari is in the northern part of Phú Quốc Island near Gành Dầu, about 20km from Dương Đông town. By motorbike, approximately 30 minutes from the central tourist area. Taxi or Grab available from most resort areas. The free Vinbus (route 17) connects the southern and northern parts of the island - show your VinSafari or VinWonders ticket to board free.
What to Expect
👀 On the Ground
Entry includes an open safari bus tour through the large mammal zones - the bus drives through enclosures with animals able to approach at close range. The walking zoo section covers primate areas (orangutans, gibbons), big cat enclosures, bird aviary, hippo pool, and a children's farm. A small aquarium is also included. The park is walkable and not excessively large, but the heat makes the electric buggy worth considering. Allow a full morning or afternoon - 3-4 hours minimum. Bird shows run at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM (Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons have no show - check before visiting). Midday is the worst time for animal activity - most retreat into shade when temperatures peak.
Travel Tips
🧳 Tips
**Is it worth 850,000 VND?** Yes for: families with children, wildlife enthusiasts, or anyone who wants a genuine open-safari experience without travelling to Africa. The white rhino programme and the variety of African megafauna make it stand out from typical Southeast Asian zoos. Less compelling for: backpackers or travellers with only 1-2 days on the island who prioritise beaches and snorkeling. **VinSafari vs VinWonders:** Combo tickets exist but doing both in one day is a rush. Each park fills a full day properly - split them if your itinerary allows. **Suggested route:** - 9 AM: Enter and head directly to the open safari bus zone before the crowd from the bird show arrives - 10 AM: Bird show (sit middle front rows) - 11 AM - 12 PM: Walking zoo - primates, big cats, reptile house - 12-1 PM: Lunch inside the park - 1-3 PM: Remaining zones, animal feeding - 3 PM onward: Animals become more active again as heat drops
