Đồi Nhái Beach

Đồi Nhái Beach sits in Phường 11, Vũng Tàu, right beside the mouth of the Cỏ May River - only about 4km from the city centre, yet noticeably undeveloped compared to Vũng Tàu's main beaches. The sand is wide, white, and flat, sloping gently into shallow water, and the beach is known locally for the strong, consistent coastal wind that makes it one of the few decent kitesurfing and windsurfing spots in Vietnam outside the Mũi Né/Phan Thiết area.

Looking out across the water, Phước Tỉnh and Long Hải are visible on the opposite shore, with the Minh Đạm mountain range forming a backdrop in the distance. The water here is less clear than at Bãi Sau, Vũng Tàu's main tourist beach, but is generally cleaner with less litter, and the surrounding area feels genuinely separate from the city despite the short distance.

Đồi Nhái Beach is in Phường 11, roughly 4km from central Vũng Tàu. It's reachable by motorbike or car, though the final stretch of access road can be rough, sandy, and unpaved in places, passing farmland along the way. There's no marked public entrance or parking area - most visitors navigate using GPS coordinates or local knowledge to find the approach track.

A wide, undeveloped, wind-swept beach - facilities remain basic, but there is now a small parking area, a freshwater rinse-off spot, and a simple wind shelter, along with a local vendor's hut offering a rudimentary shower and restroom. Don't expect more than that, though: this isn't an officially developed tourist site.

Swimming is not recommended here, since this is an undeveloped beach without regular lifeguard coverage - a drowning was reported at this beach in August 2026. If you do go in the water, stay very close to shore, check local conditions first, and never swim alone; undertow and strong currents can occur, particularly in the afternoon.

The consistent wind that makes this a tricky swimming-only beach is exactly what draws kitesurfers, windsurfers, and catamaran sailors - on breezy days you'll likely see colourful kites and sails out on the water, sometimes with a local club or hobbyists practising, and it's possible to rent basic kitesurfing gear and get informal instruction from locals. A stand of casuarina pines (rừng dương) along the shore is the usual spot for pitching a tent or setting up a beach BBQ.

Other common activities include flying kites from the beach itself and catching crabs and snails along the shoreline. The beach has occasionally hosted off-road vehicle events given its open, flat sand.

Đồi Nhái Beach is best understood as an easy, low-key add-on for anyone already in Vũng Tàu who wants a quieter, more undeveloped stretch of coast than the main tourist beaches - not a destination requiring a special trip from Ho Chi Minh City on its own. It particularly suits kitesurfers and windsurfers looking for a spot besides the usual Mũi Né option, and campers wanting an easy overnight beach trip close to the city. Combine it with a look at the Cỏ May river mouth and, if you have transport, the view across to Phước Tỉnh and Long Hải.
