Bac Lieu Wind Farm
Best months

Nov - Apr is the dry season: clear skies and settled weather, the best time for an outdoor visit and photos. The rainy season (May - Oct) can bring bad weather and strong gusts, so it's less pleasant. Whatever the month, timing in the day matters more: go early morning or late afternoon.

Best time of day
Go early (about 6:00-9:00 AM) or late in the afternoon (from about 4:00 PM until closing at 6:00 PM), when it's cooler and the light is soft. Sunset, around 5 PM, is the highlight. Avoid midday at all costs: there's almost no shade, and most disappointed visitors came at noon and spent the visit baking in the sun and wind. Leave before dark - the coastal road has no lights.
Entry fee
30,000 VND per person (2026). Archery and paint-gun games inside cost extra.
Opening hours
6:00 AM - 6:00 PM daily.
Address
Biển Đông A hamlet, Hiệp Thành ward, Cà Mau (formerly Vĩnh Trạch Đông commune, Bạc Liêu city, Bạc Liêu)
Crowds
Usually quiet; tour groups pass through
Difficulty
Easy, though the walkways are long and exposed to strong wind
Safety
Strong wind on narrow walkways; harsh midday sun with no shade; no lights on the road after dark. No drones
Accessibility
Flat concrete walkways, but long and narrow; little shade
Seasonal
Nov - Apr is the dry season and best; May - Oct brings rain and stronger gusts. The sea is muddy and murky year-round, especially at low tide

What Makes Bạc Liêu Wind Farm Special

Bạc Liêu Wind Farm is both a pioneering renewable energy project and one of the most recognisable sights in the Mekong Delta. Rows of giant white turbines rise straight out of the sea, their blades turning slowly against the sky, linked by long concrete walkways that run far out from the shore. You can see them from more than ten kilometres away as you approach along the coast.

Construction began in September 2010, and the project joined the national grid in June 2013, becoming one of the largest wind power projects in the Mekong Delta. Its first phases installed 62 turbines, each about 80 m tall with 42 m blades, across around 1,300 hectares, with total investment of more than 5,200 billion VND. Today the wind farm also attracts thousands of visitors a year.

How to Get to Bạc Liêu Wind Farm

The wind farm is in Biển Đông A hamlet, nearly 20 km from central Bạc Liêu. By motorbike or car, follow the Cao Văn Lầu coastal road - easy to ride, with plenty of scenery. Some visitors prefer Hoàng Sa road (turn in at the petrol station on the corner), a new, quiet road along the coast. The road also passes Xiêm Cán Pagoda, an easy stop on the way.

From further away, fly to Cần Thơ or Cà Mau and continue by bus or taxi, or take a long-distance bus from Ho Chi Minh City to Bạc Liêu, then a taxi or motorbike to the wind farm.

What to Expect at Bạc Liêu Wind Farm

Past the ticket gate, you walk out along concrete walkways between the turbines, with wide views of sea and sky. Up close, the scale of the turbines and the strength of the wind are the main experience. There are several photo spots, a gift shop, and small games such as archery and paint guns.

Set your expectations: this is a muddy coast

The sea here is a silty, muddy coastline typical of the Mekong Delta - the water is brown and murky, with plenty of mud, especially at low tide. Don't expect turquoise water or white sand. On a good day you'll get blue skies, but the draw is the turbines and the sunset, not the sea itself.

Opinions are mixed, and timing explains most of it. Visitors who came at sunrise or sunset describe a calm, breezy, beautiful place and a 'wow' sunset. Those who came at midday found it hot, exposed and tiring, with not much to do beyond looking at the turbines. Other common complaints are dirty toilets, few food or drink options, narrow walkways that feel a bit scary in strong wind, and muddy, murky water rather than a classic beach scene.

Go early or go late

Come between about 6:00 and 9:00 AM, or wait until the sun is low, from around 4:00 PM, and stay for sunset. Skip the middle of the day unless you want to stand in full sun and strong wind.

Travel Tips for Bạc Liêu Wind Farm

Plan 45-90 minutes here. Pair it with Xiêm Cán Pagoda in the morning, or come in the late afternoon for sunset and ride back before dark. Bring water, sun protection and something to hold your hat on, and follow the rules: no drones and no entering restricted areas.

Based on real traveler experiences and commonly mentioned advice from multiple visitors.

  • Go early morning or late afternoon
  • Stay for sunset, then leave before dark
  • Bring sun protection and water
  • ⚠️ Timing is everything: go early in the morning or wait until late afternoon. At midday there's no shade, the sun is fierce and the wind is relentless - that's when most visitors leave disappointed
  • Stay for sunset around 5 PM, but leave before dark - the coastal road has no street lights and few people
  • Drones are not allowed. Stay within the permitted areas, respect the power-line safety corridor and don't disturb the engineers at work
  • The walkways out to the turbines are long and narrow, and the wind can be very strong - walk carefully, hold onto your hat, and don't block others while taking photos
  • Bring sunscreen and an umbrella or hat - UV on the coast is high even early or late
  • Wipe down your camera and phone afterwards; the sea breeze carries salt
  • There's little food and drink on site - bring water and snacks
  • The toilets get poor reviews - go before you arrive if you can
  • Combine it with Xiêm Cán Pagoda, right on the road to the wind farm
