Sunworld Beach Cat Ba is a large-scale artificial beach development in the centre of Cat Ba Town, created by Sun Group as part of the broader Sun World Cat Ba complex. The beach stretches for nearly 1 kilometre along the town's waterfront with imported white sand, clear water, and a planted palm line providing the tropical beach aesthetic. As an artificial beach positioned in the town centre, it solves the practical problem that Cat Ba Town historically lacked a proper beach within walking distance of accommodation - visitors previously had to take a short boat ride or walk over a hill to reach the Cat Co beaches.

The beach itself opened in April 2025, but the surrounding complex has continued to grow quickly: a creative night market (VUI-Fest Cát Bà) and a beer restaurant with its own private beach and pool (Sun Bavaria Cat Ba) both opened in April 2026, and the site has hosted large-scale international productions, including a Guinness World Record-setting water, light, and fireworks show.

The beach is now the primary beach option for visitors staying in town, and its evening programming - beach club, bar, dining, and a proper ticketed jet-ski and fireworks show - has added a nightlife dimension to Cat Ba Town that was previously limited to the harbour-front restaurant strip.

Sunworld Beach is located at the southern end of Cat Ba Town, approximately 200 metres from the town's welcome gate (cổng chào). From any accommodation in Cat Ba Town centre, the beach is accessible on foot in 5-10 minutes.

From the main ferry pier, walk south along the harbour front past the hotel and restaurant strip - the beach entrance is visible from the promenade. A cable car connecting to other parts of the wider Sun World Cat Ba complex is also available nearby for those wanting to combine the visit.

The beach is wide and well-maintained with clean white sand. The water is generally clear and calm, protected by the bay. During daytime hours, the beach functions as a standard swimming and sunbathing area with vendors and activity rental operators along the sand.

In the late afternoon and evening, the beach club, bar, and dining area becomes the main activity - seating on the sand, drink and food service, and an atmosphere oriented toward groups and couples. Weekends bring a free fireworks display (reportedly around 20:00-20:30 and 21:00-21:45) that doesn't require a ticket, separate from the more elaborate jet-ski and fireworks show, which is a distinct, ticketed experience with standing and seated pricing tiers; the site has also hosted major one-off international productions with elaborate light, water, and pyrotechnic elements.

Full amenities are available on the sand, including sun loungers (around 50,000 VND), drink counters, changing rooms, and rinse showers, plus rental gear like life jackets, towable tubes, and jet skis.

One honest balance to strike: several visitors note the beach feels notably quiet and clearly artificial-looking during the day, with some ongoing construction still visible nearby, while the atmosphere picks up substantially at night with music and a livelier crowd - the calm, gentle waves are a genuine plus either way. Looking out from the beach, the view toward the karst islands of Lan Ha Bay provides the kind of backdrop that makes the artificial origin of the beach easy to forget.

Sunworld Beach is the most convenient beach option for visitors based in Cat Ba Town and is worth an evening visit for the beach club atmosphere even for travellers who are primarily here for Lan Ha Bay kayaking - just budget separately if you want to catch the ticketed fireworks show rather than assuming it's a free extra. For a more natural and quieter beach experience, the Cat Co beaches (particularly Cat Co 3) on the eastern side of the hill are a 15-20 minute walk from town and have a different character. The two are complementary rather than competing - Sunworld for evenings, dining, and shows, Cat Co for daytime swimming in a more natural setting.

Given how quickly this complex has been expanding (new venues opening as recently as April 2026), it's worth checking current listings close to your visit date rather than relying on older write-ups.
