Bình Sơn Beach

Bình Sơn Beach is Phan Rang - Tháp Chàm's city beach, on Đường 16/4 a few kilometres (roughly 3-7km depending on the source and exact starting point) from the downtown core, in a province that happens to be the driest in Vietnam - some areas receive as little as 700mm of rainfall a year, against a national average of over 1,800mm.

Rather than being a remote or undeveloped stretch of coast, Bình Sơn connects directly to the better-known Ninh Chữ beach just along the shore, and together they form one continuous, gently curving beach system well over 10km long.

The Bình Sơn end has been developed as Công viên biển Bình Sơn (Bình Sơn Sea Park), a roughly 20-hectare modern seafront park with granite-paved walking paths, shade trees, an artistic fountain, and an LED lighting system that lights up in the evening - a genuine piece of urban design that draws locals out for exercise and socialising as much as it draws visitors for a swim.

The sand is fine and white, the water clear thanks to Ninh Thuận's low rainfall and runoff, and the beach is popular for both casual swimming and water sports like kitesurfing, kite flying, and basket-boat racing given the region's consistently windy dry season.

Bình Sơn is genuinely central - roughly 3-7km from downtown Phan Rang - Tháp Chàm depending on the source, reached in about 10-15 minutes by motorbike, car, or taxi via Đường 16/4. Phan Rang itself is about 340km from Ho Chi Minh City (5-6 hours by road) and roughly 105km south of Nha Trang (about 2 hours). Once at Bình Sơn, the beach continues on toward Ninh Chữ along Yên Ninh road, so the two are easily combined on foot or by a short bike ride along the shore.

A long, developed city beach rather than a quiet escape - fine white sand, clear water in the dry season, and a lit seafront promenade that gets genuinely busy in the evenings as locals come out to walk, exercise, and socialise. There's no regular lifeguard presence here, so waves can be strong enough to make it more of a wading-and-splashing beach than a calm swimming spot for young children - stick close to shore, keep a close eye on kids in the water, and swim where other people are around rather than in an isolated stretch. Kitesurfers take advantage of the reliable wind.

Freshwater showers and informal, locally-run parking are available (agree the price before you hand over your keys), though beachside restaurants have a reputation among visitors for high prices and mediocre food. Mornings are calmer and less windy than evenings if a quieter visit matters to you.

Think of Bình Sơn as the accessible, central half of the wider Bình Sơn - Ninh Chữ beach system rather than a standalone destination - most visitors end up covering both in the same outing, since they connect directly along the shore. It's a solid, convenient choice if you're staying in central Phan Rang and want an easy beach fix without a special trip, but it's not the place to go if you want an undeveloped, quiet stretch of coast - for that, Ninh Thuận's more remote beaches further along the coastal road (Bình Tiên, Vĩnh Hy, Sơn Hải) are a better bet, at the cost of a longer ride.

Ninh Thuận province as a whole is underrated: the Chăm towers at Po Klong Garai and Po Rome, the grape farms of Ninh Phước, the sheep pastures, and the dry coastal landscape create a regional character unlike anywhere else in Vietnam, and Bình Sơn works well as the easy, central beach component of a broader Ninh Thuận itinerary.
